The Synergy Way

From the beginning, we’ve wanted SynergyLabs to be different. Different in how we treat our customers, different in how we work with each other, and different in the results we achieve. Those differences are best captured in our 25 “fundamentals” – which are the building-blocks of our foundation and unique culture.

Group 291

Do The Right Thing Always

Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing in every action you take and in every decision you make, even when no one’s looking. Integrity is not a part-time job.

002

Make Quality Personal

Take pride in the quality of everything you touch and everything you do. Always ask yourself “is this my best work?” Everything you touch has your signature and/or picture and makes a statement about you. Make sure it’s a statement of excellence.

03

Just Do It

Be resourceful and show initiative. Take personal responsibility for making things happen – somehow, someway. It’s never someone else’s job or someone else’s fault. Take ownership. Don’t make excuses.

04

Work Whith A Sense Of Urgency

Work as quickly as possible, without sacrificing quality. Don’t put off till tomorrow what can be completed today. Get stuff done.

05

Honor Commitments

Deliver on your commitments every time. This includes being on time for all phone calls, appointments, meetings, and promises. If a commitment can’t be fulfilled, notify others early and agree on a new commitment to be honored.

06

Get Clear On Expectations

Create clarity and avoid misunderstandings by discussing expectations upfront. Establish mutually understood objectives and deadlines for all projects, issues, and commitments.

07

Do It Right The First Time

Double-check your work. The goal is to get things “right,” not simply to get them “done.” While we always want to work with a sense of urgency, sometimes we need to slow down to speed up.

08

Use Your Brain, Not Your Brawn

Work smart. Be organized and plan your work for maximum efficiency. Think ahead. It’s always easier to prevent a problem than to fix one.

09

Think Safe. Work Safe

Know and practice the safety procedures for your job. Watch out for the safety of your teammates as well, for you are your brother’s keeper. Never take shortcuts that compromise your safety or that of your teammates.

10

Check Your Ego At The Door

It’s not about you. Don’t let your own ego or personal agenda get in the way of doing what’s best for the team. Worrying about who gets credit or taking things personally is counterproductive. Make sure every decision is based solely on advancing team goals.

11

Speak Straight

Speak honestly in a way that moves the action forward. Make clear and direct requests. Say what you mean, and be willing to share ideas or raise issues that may cause conflict when it’s necessary for team success. Address issues directly with those who are involved or affected.

12

Listen Generously

Listening is more than simply “not speaking.” Give others your undivided attention. Quiet the noise in your head and let go of the need to agree or disagree. Listen with care and with empathy. Above all, listen to understand.

13

Continuously Improve Everything

Constantly reevaluate every aspect of your job to find ways to improve. “because we’ve always done it that way” is not a reason. Be curious. Ask questions. Take ownership for finding a better way.

14

Practice Blameless Problem-Solving

Fix mistakes by focusing on solutions. Then identify lessons learned and use those lessons to improve our processes so we don’t make the same mistake again. Get smarter with every mistake.

15

Bring It Every Day

Make the most of each day by approaching every task with energy, focus, purpose, and enthusiasm. Be fully engaged.

16

Follow-Up Everything

Record a follow-up date for every action and take responsibility to see that it gets completed. We get paid to complete things, not simply put them in motion.

17

Think Team

Nothing is done in isolation. Consider how your actions impact your teammates. Be willing to step into another role or help a co-worker when that’s what’s required for success. There’s no such thing as one person or one department succeeding and another falling short. We win and lose as a team.

18

Share Information

Learn to ask yourself, “who else needs to know this?” When in doubt, share more rather than less. No team ever failed because they shared too much information. Over communicate.

19

Come Clean

Own your mistakes. Surface issues and fix them rather than sweeping them under the rug. We can’t fix what we don’t know about.

20

Embrace Change

What got us here is not the same as what will get us to the next level. Be inspired by the opportunities that change brings, rather than stubbornly hanging onto old ways of doing things. Get outside your comfort zone. That’s where growth happens.

21

Make Our Appearance A Reflection Of Our Quality

Making sure your personal appearance, your work area, and our office are safe, neat, clean, and orderly inspires confidence in our quality. If you see it, take care of it. Take pride in being a synergy team member.

22

Think And Act Like An Owner

Make decisions by asking yourself, “what would I do if this were my company? What would I do if this were my own money? Will this help the company to succeed?”

23

Reduce Or Eliminated Waste

Look for opportunities to reduce or eliminate wasted time, money, materials, and effort. Our job is to do it right, and to do it fast, without sacrificing competitiveness, quality, or safety.

24

Celebrate Success

Catching people doing things right is more effective than catching them doing things wrong. Regularly give, receive, and ask for meaningful acknowledgment and appreciation – in all directions throughout our company.

Mask Group

Supply Chain Management, Operations & Quality Control

SynergyLabs follows a rigorous series of rules and procedures to meet its standards for quality control.

The company’s laboratory, manufacturing practices and systems in place are compliant with good manufacturing practices (cGMP), EPA and FDA, HAZMAT, NASC, as well as OSHA regulations. The company has hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in top-of-the-line laboratory and chemical batching equipment, packaging and digital printing technology.

Mask Group 02

Laboratory Science & Innovation

Annually, SynergyLabs invests over 1,000 research and development hours on private, contract and brand formulations for many of the world’s largest organizations that cater to the pet care industry. SynergyLabs’ laboratory department guarantees the efficacy of formulations through tests including but not limited to: pH, rheology, centipoises, salt curve, refractometry, dehydration studies, and importantly – accelerated and non-accelerated stability testing that certifies each product holds a minimum of three years’ shelf-life.

SynergyLabs stores 2 active databases of material safety and data sheets (MSDS) for every raw material on-hand, as well as MSDS sheets for every brand and private label formula that the company manufacturers. This information is available to customers upon request.

Mask Group03

Raw Materials Life Cycle: From Quarantine to Release

SynergyLabs’ strict quality control procedures in mass-manufacturing begin in receiving. As raw materials enter the facility, they are immediately placed in quarantine and labeled with an orange sticker – to be then inspected and released by one of our quality control chemists. Should a raw material not pass inspection, it is immediately dispatched back to the supplier and new raw material is ordered to go through the same process.

Once the raw materials are approved and released, they are then transferred into the batching staging area. Between each batch, the stainless-steel tanks, pumps and hoses are meticulously cleansed with an EPA registered viricidal and bacterial disinfectant to ensure no germs are present, as well as deionized water during a final deep-rinse cycle.

Mask Group04

Lot Tracking

From batching, the chemicals are transferred into 55-gallon disinfected drums to the packaging room, where each product is set-up on 1 of 4 liquid filling lines. Before a line runs, all data linked to the product is tracked to a bar-coded lot numbering system. The company’s coding methods are so precise, each raw material and component can be tracked back to its source, throughout the history of us doing business.

In addition to the lot code, the initials of the quality control inspector, who stand at the end of each line inspecting every bottle, are printed next to the lot number. With his/her name on the product, SynergyLabs can be sure he/she will not allow product to go out the door that has not passed the company’s rigorous quality control procedures.

Mask Group05

Active Retains Room

SynergyLabs maintains a locked active retains room, where all lots produced over the past 3 years are kept and only accessed by our quality control chemists. From each production run we manufacture, the line manager removes three pieces of product: 1 from the beginning of the run, 1 from the middle, and 1 from the end. All 3 pieces are to be tested and approved for consistency & efficacy before product is shipped. These 3 pieces are then placed in the retains room for safekeeping.

These procedures allow us to ensure the entire production run meets the same quality control standards, and each bottle produced, matches all the others. Should there ever be a product-related issue, or customer complaint received (which we have very few of), we’re able to test those 3 bottles from the lot noted, and trace back all raw materials used by supplier.

Mask Group06

Satisfaction Guarantee

On all our packaging, SynergyLabs posts a “satisfaction guarantee – return unused product with original receipt to place of purchase” statement that promises customers 100% quality, efficacy, and safety – or their money back.

At SynergyLabs, the team is very proud of its long history of safety for its employees, its customers and their pets. The company takes deep pride in its product chemistry, its innovation, and its value standards, which has proven a successful combination in accumulating new customers worldwide.

Mask Group 07

Shipping

Lead by Ken Persad, our shipping department proudly embodies & maintains a 99.3% on-time & accuracy scorecard average with our key partners. We’re very proud of this extraordinarily difficult accomplishment – given we team up with a vast variety of retail & distributor partners in over 40 counties worldwide.

Our team has tremendous experience and work-ethic, ensuring every order gets out the door quickly, and accurately. No customer is too large, or too small to guarantee perfection.

Our shipping department employs a variety of cross-check methods to ensure accuracy. All our pallets are wrapped in the most expensive black wrapping, to safeguard sturdiness during transit. Most shipping agencies use less expensive, clear wrapping – thus, if a shipment has been un-palletized and re-wrapped by the trucking company (in clear wrapping), we’re able to easily identify if/why damage has occurred.

We also proudly sticker each pallet with a picture of the shipping team member who packed the order. The shipping team member certainly doesn’t want to send something out the door with mistakes if their face is clearly labeled on their work.

Ticktin spends most of his time nurturing the company’s culture, expanding and innovating its top brands & formulations, and growing the business domestically and abroad. Ticktin has received NBC, Tribune and pet industry trade media coverage, has lectured worldwide for mass audiences on animal health and grooming and has been featured on H&G TV for a Dental Fresh® educational segment. Ticktin also made investments in digital label presses and has expanded its every-growing collection of Aesus® pharmaceutical machinery lines, cappers, and labelers.

Today, SynergyLabs finds itself launching extraordinary growth & innovation. Ticktin is humbly excited for what’s to come – as he never wants to stop thinking, building & innovating. As the company achieves beyond projected sales numbers, Ticktin anticipates needing an even larger facility to accommodate his vision. He plans to ultimately purchase and re-engineer a plant to his exact specifications, and diversify the business into other categories of pet care beyond chemicals.

Experience

Born in the United Kingdom, son of a General in the British Army stationed around the world, Graham spent his early life with his parents while schooled at Wellington College, one of the top five private schools in the United Kingdom.
Graham won a scholarship from Babcock and Wilcox to study Chemical Engineering at Birmingham University. Babcock and Wilcox’s training included an extensive engineering training program during and after university specifically designed for their top scholars.

As management salaries were so depressed in the United Kingdom in the early 70’s, Graham, as did thousands of others, immigrated to North America, joining a small company that imported and manufactured packaging machinery.

Professional

A twenty-year career with this company saw Graham start in sales, through sales management to General manager, Vice-president, and ultimately President. Starting as a very small company, with a handful of people, it grew during Graham’s tenure to a well-known global company employing around 300 hundred people with sales in the region of $60 million.

In the mid-90’s this company was sold to a large international company with sales exceeding $500 million. This company became the nucleus of an eventual group of eight other packaging machinery companies with Graham as the Packaging Group President. Graham was appointed to the Board of Directors of the company and also became the Chief Technical Officer for the whole corporation of 18 Companies.

In 2000 Graham left this Corporation and retired consulting occasionally, until a 3 Year non-compete expired when he founded Aesus in October 2003 along with his daughter Samantha. Through innovative designs of Packaging machinery, Aesus in 2016 has over 100 employees and sells machinery worldwide.

Partnering with Richard Ticktin owner of Synergy Labs a Premier Pet Care manufacturer, Graham brings machinery and business experience to aid Synergy in their excellent growth.
